Aiden Markram Elaborates on Abhishek Sharma’s Struggles: SRH vs LSG
After a series of demoralizing defeats, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) roared back to form in a spectacular fashion, overpowering Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets in the 58th group-stage fixture of IPL 2023 on Saturday. In a pulsating encounter, SRH posted a commendable total of 182 runs, only to be chased down in the final over by LSG, courtesy of a scintillating cameo from Nicholas Pooran.
However, it was the 16th over of the match that witnessed a dramatic shift in momentum. Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis unleashed an onslaught against the young Abhishek Sharma, striking five massive sixes and amassing an impressive total of 31 runs. Sharma’s costly over proved to be the turning point of the game, propelling LSG toward a crucial victory.
Speaking after the match, SRH skipper Aiden Markram shed light on the team’s strategy and the unfortunate outcome of Sharma’s bowling performance. Markram revealed that the plan was to bowl on a challenging line and length, exploiting the conditions of the pitch. However, he acknowledged that Sharma crumbled under the immense pressure of bowling against established T20 superstars like Pooran and Stoinis.
“The instructions were clear – bowl into the wicket. But pressure is an entirely different ball game. When you find yourself facing the likes of Stoinis and Pooran, two giants of T20 cricket, it’s a true test of character,” Markram explained.

Despite the setback, Markram urged his team to focus on the fundamentals and secure victories in their remaining matches to keep their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive. The South African batsman emphasized the importance of playing disciplined cricket and highlighted the possibility of making it to the playoffs if they manage to win convincingly.
As for Abhishek Sharma’s exclusion from the bowling attack, Markram acknowledged the effectiveness of Glenn Maxwell’s contributions and expressed confidence in the team’s decision-making process. Markram stated, “Glenn did his job, and I didn’t feel I was the right person for the task.
Our priority now is to perform exceptionally well in the next three matches. If we can achieve that, who knows, it might be enough to secure our spot in the playoffs. I haven’t crunched the numbers yet.”

It also highlighted the importance of maintaining composure and executing game plans effectively, even in high-stakes situations.
LSG’s triumph over SRH has injected new energy into their campaign, setting the stage for an exciting final stretch of matches. As the IPL 2023 season nears its climax, cricket fans can expect more thrilling encounters and memorable performances from the top teams competing for a spot in the playoffs.
