Injured Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of T20 World Cup 2022
On Thursday, India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a back stress fracture, which has dealt a severe blow to the team’s chances at the ICC flagship event in Australia starting next month.
Bumrah has been forced out of action for six months as a result of the injury he sustained to his back, according to a BCCI official.
In an interview with PTI on condition of anonymity, a senior BCCI official told PTI that Bumrah would not be able to participate in the T20 World Cup because of a serious back problem. He has a stress fracture and could be out for at least six months.
There is a possibility that either Deepak Chahar or Mohammed Shami could replace Bumrah in the main squad of the team. BCCI named both of them as stand-by players for the prestigious tournament and selected them as stand-by players.
For the opening match of the series against South Africa, Bumrah, who played both the second and third T20s against Australia, did not travel with the team to Thiruvananthapuram with his teammates.
After Ravindra Jadeja, who is recovering from knee surgery, the 28-year-old fast bowler is the second senior star to be ruled out of this series.
There is already a sense of unease about the Indian team at the moment and the news of Bumrah’s injury has only aggravated the predicament for skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid.
I believe losing Bumrah and Jadeja will be extremely devastating for India. I did not expect everything to turn out as it has. He was rested for the Asia Cup in order to manage his workload. It remains to be seen whether he was even fit enough to play the series against Australia,” the senior official said.
Considering the load on many senior players, it has been important to give them adequate rest.
The fact that Bumrah has only played five Tests, five One Day Internationals, and as many Twenty20 Internationals in 2022 apart from playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL is even more interesting.
There hasn’t been a lot of cricket in his career, considering that he sat out the Asia Cup, West Indies tour, and also some bilateral cricket in India. He hasn’t played much cricket for a long time. At the moment he is at the NCA and the rehabilitation is going to be arduous and drawn out. It is true that World T20 is an important event, however, he is still a young man and India’s most potent bowler. I don’t think you can take a risk when it comes to him,” the official said.
It is not necessary to undergo surgery to treat back stress fractures, but it takes a long time for your body to heal.
As Bumrah has a slinging action that puts a lot of strain on his back when he is loading, he puts a lot of strain on his back.
Michael Holding, the former West Indies pace bowling great, had assessed that Bumrah was always going to be a candidate for back injuries due to his athletic abilities.
