#1. Chris Gayle Double Century vs Zimbabwe in World Cup 2015 – (215 runs)

In 2015, Chris Gayle became the first player to score a double century in a World Cup. This happened during the 15th match of the tournament between the West Indies and Zimbabwe in Canberra. The West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first.

Although they lost Dwayne Smith without scoring, Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels created history with a record 372-run partnership, the highest in ODI cricket.

Marlon Samuels scored an unbeaten 133 runs from 156 balls, hitting 11 fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, Chris Gayle smashed his first ODI double century, scoring 215 runs off 147 balls, including 16 sixes and 10 fours.

The West Indies posted a huge total of 372/2. Zimbabwe fought hard but were all out for 289 runs, leading to a West Indies victory by 73 runs using the DLS method.

#2. Martin Guptill Double Century vs West Indies in World Cup 2015 – (237*)

Just days after Chris Gayle’s double century, New Zealand’s Martin Guptill scored another double century in the 2015 World Cup. This happened in the fourth quarterfinal against the West Indies in Wellington.

New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first. Guptill started aggressively, consistently hitting boundaries. He reached his fifty in 65 balls and his century in 111 balls.

Guptill then powered his way to a double century in 152 balls, remaining unbeaten with 237 runs from 163 balls. His innings included 24 fours and 11 sixes, making him the first New Zealand player to score an ODI double century and the second-highest individual scorer in ODI history. New Zealand ended their innings at 393/6.

The West Indies struggled in their chase, getting bowled out for 250 runs in 30.3 overs, leading to a 143-run victory for New Zealand.

#3. Glenn Maxwell (Australia) – 201 runs* vs Afghanistan

On November 7, 2023, Glenn Maxwell delivered one of the most extraordinary performances in ODI cricket history, scoring an unbeaten 201 runs off 128 balls against Afghanistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup. This remarkable innings took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and led Australia to a thrilling three-wicket victory, securing their place in the semifinals.

Australia was in a dire situation when Maxwell came to the crease. Chasing a target of 292 runs set by Afghanistan, Australia was reeling at 49/4 and later slumped to 91/7. The Afghan bowlers, including Naveen-ul-Haq, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Rashid Khan, had put Australia under immense pressure with their early breakthroughs.
