His best years included a 633-run title-winning campaign for CSK in 2021 and a career-best 730 runs for RCB in 2023. Du Plessis did not participate in IPL 2026 after withdrawing from the auction, leaving his career numbers unchanged through the latest completed season.

Faf du Plessis IPL Career Stats

Faf du Plessis IPL Season-by-Season Stats

Du Plessis was part of the CSK setup before his playing debut, but his first IPL appearance came in 2012. He did not play an IPL match in 2013. Chennai were then suspended for the 2016 and 2017 editions, during which he represented Rising Pune Supergiant. He returned to CSK in 2018 before moving to RCB in 2022 and Delhi Capitals in 2025.

Faf du Plessis IPL Runs by Team

The largest part of his IPL batting record came with Chennai Super Kings. He scored 2,721 runs for CSK across his playing seasons with the franchise and later added 1,636 runs during three seasons with RCB.

Faf du Plessis at Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings played the biggest role in establishing Faf du Plessis as an IPL batter. He made his debut for CSK in 2012 and immediately scored 398 runs. Opening the batting allowed him to make full use of his strong technique against pace while also using his footwork against spin.

His role changed over the years. During some early seasons he moved in and out of the playing XI because IPL teams could field only four overseas players. By the time CSK returned to the competition in 2018, however, du Plessis had become an experienced T20 opener who could handle high-pressure matches.

One of his most important CSK innings came in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2018 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Chasing a difficult target, Chennai lost wickets regularly before du Plessis produced an unbeaten 67 from 42 balls. His innings carried CSK into the final, where they went on to win the title.

His most productive CSK season came in 2021. Du Plessis scored 633 runs in 16 matches, finishing only two runs behind teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad in the Orange Cap race. He saved one of his best performances for the final against Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring 86 from 59 balls as Chennai posted 192/3 and won the championship by 27 runs. Du Plessis was named Player of the Match in the final.

Faf du Plessis IPL Stats for CSK

His final season with Chennai was also his finest in terms of runs for the franchise. After IPL 2021, CSK did not retain him ahead of the mega auction.

Faf du Plessis at Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed du Plessis for IPL 2022 and immediately made him captain. He replaced Virat Kohli as the team's full-time leader and opened the batting throughout his three seasons with the franchise.

He scored 468 runs during his first RCB campaign in 2022, including a highest score of 96. Bengaluru qualified for the playoffs and defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator before losing to Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.

Du Plessis then produced the best individual IPL season of his career in 2023. He scored 730 runs in 14 matches at an average of 56.15 and a strike rate above 153. Only Shubman Gill scored more runs that season. Du Plessis also hit eight half-centuries and 36 sixes, the most sixes by any player in IPL 2023.

His 2024 campaign produced another 438 runs. RCB endured a difficult start but won six consecutive league games to reach the playoffs. Du Plessis played an important role during the comeback, including a rapid 64 from 23 balls against Gujarat Titans.

Faf du Plessis RCB IPL Stats

Faf du Plessis IPL Captaincy Record

Du Plessis captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2022 through 2024. He brought extensive international captaincy experience to a side that had previously been led for many years by Virat Kohli.

RCB reached the playoffs in two of his three seasons as captain. They progressed to Qualifier 2 in 2022 and returned to the playoffs in 2024 after one of the most dramatic turnarounds in league history. The team missed qualification in 2023 despite du Plessis enjoying his best IPL season with the bat.

His approach was generally calm and structured. He often relied on matchups, used his fast bowlers aggressively during the powerplay and remained an important boundary fielder even while carrying the responsibility of captaincy.

Faf du Plessis at Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals bought du Plessis for ₹2 crore ahead of IPL 2025. The move brought his long spell with RCB to an end and made Delhi the fourth IPL franchise he represented.

His 2025 season was quieter than his previous years. Du Plessis scored 202 runs from nine innings at an average of 22.44 and a strike rate of 123.93. He registered two half-centuries, with a highest score of 62 against Kolkata Knight Riders. He finished the season with 18 fours and eight sixes.

Delhi Capitals released him before IPL 2026. Du Plessis then chose not to enter the IPL 2026 auction, bringing an uninterrupted run of IPL involvement since his 2012 debut to an end.

Best Innings of Faf du Plessis in IPL

Faf du Plessis never scored an IPL century, but he produced several innings that were more important than the absence of a three-figure score might suggest.

His career-high score of 96 came during his time with Chennai Super Kings in 2019. He later reached 96 again for RCB in 2022, meaning he twice finished only four runs short of his first IPL hundred.

The unbeaten 67 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 Qualifier 1 was one of his best pressure innings. CSK were struggling in a low-scoring chase before he guided them into the final.

His 86 in the 2021 IPL final carries even greater significance. Du Plessis attacked Kolkata's bowling throughout the innings and helped Chennai post a total that proved too large to chase.

His 84 against Punjab Kings in 2023 was another example of his increased attacking intent at RCB. That season showed a more aggressive version of du Plessis, particularly against pace during the powerplay and middle overs.

Faf du Plessis Sixes Record in IPL

Du Plessis finished his IPL career through 2025 with 174 sixes. His six-hitting increased noticeably during his later seasons as T20 batting became more aggressive.

IPL 2023 was the standout year. He struck 36 sixes for RCB, the highest total by any batter in that edition. He combined those sixes with 60 fours while scoring 730 runs.

His power was not based only on brute force. Du Plessis regularly used strong footwork to hit spin down the ground and was particularly effective when creating room against fast bowlers.

Faf du Plessis Fours Record in IPL

Du Plessis hit 439 fours during his IPL career. He was strong through cover and extra cover, while his ability to pull shorter deliveries made him difficult to contain when bowlers missed their lengths.

His 2023 season again produced his highest boundary numbers, with 60 fours alongside 36 sixes. Across his career, those boundary numbers contributed heavily to a strike rate of 135.79.

Why Faf du Plessis Never Scored an IPL Century

One of the unusual parts of Faf du Plessis's IPL record is that he scored 4,773 runs and 39 half-centuries without making a century.

His highest score was 96, and he reached that score on more than one occasion. He also scored 95 not out for Chennai in 2021.

The lack of a hundred does not accurately reflect his consistency. Du Plessis often played in teams where maintaining the required scoring rate was more important than protecting an individual milestone. His 39 fifties place him among the IPL's most regular fifty-makers despite never reaching three figures.

Faf du Plessis IPL Achievements

Du Plessis's major IPL achievements include winning the tournament with Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and 2021, scoring 633 runs during CSK's 2021 championship campaign, winning Player of the Match in the 2021 final and recording his career-best season of 730 runs for RCB in 2023.

He also captained RCB for three seasons and led the franchise into the playoffs twice.

Conclusion

Faf du Plessis IPL records reflect a career built on consistency rather than individual milestones. He scored 4,773 runs in 154 matches at an average of 35.10 and a strike rate of 135.79. His career included 39 half-centuries, 439 fours, 174 sixes and a highest score of 96.

His strongest period with Chennai Super Kings included IPL titles in 2018 and 2021, while his move to Royal Challengers Bengaluru brought captaincy responsibility and the best batting season of his career. His 730 runs and 36 sixes in IPL 2023 were among the finest numbers produced by an RCB opener outside Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle.

His final IPL season came with Delhi Capitals in 2025, when he scored 202 runs in nine innings. After withdrawing from the 2026 auction, his career record remains at 4,773 runs. Whether or not he appears in the league again, du Plessis has already established himself as one of the most productive overseas batters in IPL history.
