CSK Impact Players to Keep an Eye On

Chennai Super Kings' mastery of the Impact Player rule has been a key tactical edge. Their ability to identify and deploy game-changers, from seasoned finishers to emerging talents, deserves close attention.

Four to Watch

Shivam Dube's Power

Dube has been Chennai's designated spin-hitter, used strategically against slow bowling. His ability to clear long boundaries transformed CSK's middle overs, with strike rates against spin among the league's best.

As an Impact Player, Dube could be held back until favourable match-ups, maximising his destructive potential. This tactical deployment became a CSK trademark.

Pathirana's Death Mastery

Matheesha Pathirana's slingy action and pinpoint yorkers made him Chennai's death-overs weapon. Used as an impact substitute when defending totals, his variations proved nearly unplayable.

The Sri Lankan's development under CSK's guidance showed the franchise's ability to nurture overseas talent into match-winners.

Rachin's Versatility

Rachin Ravindra's all-round skills gave Chennai flexibility. Capable of opening or batting middle order, plus useful spin, he could be deployed based on match situation.

His fielding excellence added another dimension, with game-changing catches and run-outs.

The Dhoni Factor

MS Dhoni's use of the Impact Player rule was masterful. His reading of game situations, knowing exactly when to introduce a bowler or batter, gave CSK marginal gains that accumulated over seasons.

No captain manipulated the substitution timing better, turning a simple rule into a strategic weapon.
