There is no doubt that the ICC Champions Trophy is ready to make a return to the ICC Calendar after an interlude of eight years. The ICC Champions Trophy’s eighth edition marked its final tournament before discontinuation. However, in 2021, the ICC announced the revival of the Champions Trophy, scheduled for 2025 and 2029.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Qualification Process

Unlike the World Cup, which hosts the top 10 teams, the Champions Trophy features 8 teams divided into two groups: Group A and Group B, each consisting of four teams. These groups compete in semifinals and playoffs to determine the champion of the “Mini World Cup,” also known as the Champions Trophy.

Currently, Pakistan has won the Champions Trophy after defeating India at Lords in 2017.

There was a clash between India and Pakistan in the final, when Pakistan scored 338/4 from 50 overs.

Team India scored only 158 runs in response, and the entire squad was sent back to the dugout. India was defeated by Pakistan by 180 runs. 

How many times India Won the Champions Trophy?

The Indian team has won the Champions Trophy twice in its 19-year history. It was rain that interrupted India’s maiden trophy match with Sri Lanka in 2002. India won the trophy at England’s home for the second time. In 20 overs, India scored 129 for 7 wickets with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja contributing significantly. England, however, lost wickets and scored only 124 runs, losing by 5 runs. In Birmingham, Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosted the 2013 Champions Trophy, which was won by India.  

How many overs in Champions Trophy 2025?

It is every four years that The Champions Trophy, a 50-over format ICC tournament takes place that features the eight top ranked teams from the previous ICC ODI World Cup takes place. In order to qualify for the Champions Trophy, a team must be ranked among the top 8 ODI teams in the ICC World Cup in order to be considered for the Champions Trophy. 

Champions Trophy 2025 Host and Venues

In the ICC’s announcement that Pakistan will be hosting the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, the defending champion has been announced to be the host. In the year 2025, the ICC Champions Trophy will take place in Lahore from February 19 through March 9.

Will India Go to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025?

For reasons of security, India is unlikely to travel to Pakistan due to the political disputes between India and Pakistan at the moment. Fans, however, are already looking forward to India and Pakistan playing in the highly anticipated game on March 1 in Lahore, the date on which PCB has penciled in this game.

Pakistan and India share group A, with New Zealand and Bangladesh. As for the other side, England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan will battle for the Champions Trophy semifinal spot in Group B.
