Glenn Phillips IPL Stats, Price, Runs, Age, Century, Debut, Team

Glenn Phillips is one of the most electrifying fielders in world cricket, and his IPL career has been built around that reputation as much as his explosive batting. The New Zealand all-rounder has featured for three franchises in the league, bringing fearless stroke play, handy off-spin and some of the most spectacular catches the tournament has ever seen.

Despite limited game time in the IPL, Phillips has shown he can change a match in a few balls with the bat and in a single moment in the field. His journey through the league reflects both the promise of his talent and the difficulty of holding down a spot in star-studded squads.

Glenn Phillips IPL Career Overview

Glenn Phillips made his IPL debut in 2021 for Rajasthan Royals, joining as a replacement player for 50 lakh. He played three matches that season before being released ahead of the 2022 mega auction.

Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for 1.50 crore in 2022 and retained him through 2024. His most active season came in 2023, when he played five matches and struck at 177.27. Gujarat Titans then signed him for 2 crore, and he turned out for the franchise in the 2026 season.

Across his IPL career, Glenn Phillips has played 14 matches and scored 132 runs at an average of 12.00 and a strike rate of 121.10, with a highest score of 25, along with 2 wickets from his part-time off-spin and 11 catches.

Glenn Phillips IPL Stats Year by Year

Phillips has hit 7 fours and 8 sixes in his IPL career. His strike rate of 177.27 in the 2023 season shows his ability to score at a rapid tempo even in a small sample of games, while his 2026 stint with Gujarat Titans produced his highest season aggregate of 67 runs.

Glenn Phillips IPL Teams and Price History

Franchises have consistently valued him at auction even without big returns on the field. His price rose from 50 lakh as a replacement signing to 2 crore with Gujarat Titans, reflecting his standing as a proven international match-winner in T20 cricket.

Rajasthan Royals: The Debut Season

Phillips arrived at Rajasthan Royals during the 2021 season as a replacement player. He played three matches, scoring 26 runs with a best of 14 not out, and picked up his first IPL wicket with his off-spin.

Game time was hard to come by in a squad built around established overseas stars. Rajasthan released him before the 2022 mega auction, but his brief stint introduced IPL audiences to his athleticism in the field.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: The Most Active Phase

Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Phillips for 1.50 crore in the 2022 mega auction and kept him in the squad for three seasons. He did not get many opportunities in 2022, but 2023 brought five appearances.

In those five matches, he scored 39 runs at a strike rate of 177.27, including his career-best IPL score of 25. He also bowled three overs of off-spin, taking 1 wicket at an economy of 6.67. The numbers were modest, but his intent was clear: every innings was played at full attacking tempo.

He stayed with the franchise in 2024 as squad depth before moving on.

Gujarat Titans: A New Home

Gujarat Titans signed Glenn Phillips for 2 crore, and he represented the franchise in the 2026 season. In six matches, he scored 67 runs, his best seasonal aggregate in the IPL, with a highest score of 25 and a strike rate of 124.07.

The Titans valued him as a flexible middle-order option who could also keep wicket and bowl useful overs, plus provide elite fielding in the deep and at point.

Batting Style and Role

Glenn Phillips is a right-handed batter who attacks from the first ball. He is especially strong against spin, using his feet to get to the pitch and hitting cleanly down the ground. His 8 sixes in just 14 IPL innings underline his power.

He can bat anywhere from opener to finisher, which is exactly why franchises keep buying him. In the IPL he has mostly been used as a middle-order aggressor, a role that demands instant impact in limited balls.

With the ball, his right-arm off-spin has been genuinely useful. In the IPL he has 2 wickets at an average of 20.00 and an economy of 8.00, and he has often been called on to break partnerships.

Fielding: His Greatest IPL Asset

If there is one reason Glenn Phillips stays in demand, it is his fielding. He is widely regarded as one of the best T20 fielders in the world, capable of stunning one-handed catches at point, in the covers and on the boundary.

In the IPL he has taken 11 catches in 14 matches, an outstanding rate that reflects how much action he sees in the field. His highlight-reel grabs in international cricket, including gravity-defying efforts at the T20 World Cup, are exactly what IPL teams hope to see repeated in their colours.

Glenn Phillips Age, Debut and International Career

Glenn Dominic Phillips was born on 6 December 1996 in East London, South Africa, and represents New Zealand internationally. He made his IPL debut in 2021 for Rajasthan Royals at the age of 24.

For New Zealand, he has been a key T20 international player, known for his maiden T20I century against the West Indies in 2020, scored off just 46 balls. That innings, one of the fastest in T20I history, remains the clearest statement of his batting talent.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Phillips’s greatest strength is his all-round T20 package. Few players combine power-hitting, useful spin, wicketkeeping ability and world-class fielding in one squad slot. His fearless approach means he never lets the situation slow him down.

His main weakness in the IPL has been converting starts. With a highest score of 25 and no half-centuries in 14 matches, he has not yet produced the defining innings his talent suggests. Limited and inconsistent opportunities have not helped, but his average of 12.00 shows he needs a breakout season.

Glenn Phillips IPL Legacy So Far

Glenn Phillips’s IPL story is still being written. He arrived with a huge reputation from international cricket and has shown flashes of his ability, but he has not yet had the extended run in a playing XI that could turn flashes into a season-defining campaign.

What keeps him relevant is that every franchise values what he offers: flexibility, energy and the chance of something extraordinary in the field. At still a young age for a T20 specialist, he has time to add the big IPL season his career has been missing.
