IND vs PAK Hong Kong Sixes 2026: Pakistan Win Toss and Bowl First in Group C Clash

Pakistan have won the toss and opted to bowl first against India in their Group C clash at the Hong Kong Sixes 2026, at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok on Friday, October 30, 2026. It is India’s opening match of the tournament — and Pakistan’s second match of the day, after a shock defeat to the UAE this morning.

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan meet in the six-a-side, six-over format with very different mornings behind them. India, led by Krunal Pandya, begin their campaign fresh. Pakistan, the defending champions captained by Abbas Afridi, must win this one to keep their Cup semi-final hopes alive after losing their opener.

Pakistan Lost to UAE This Morning: Why This Match Is Must-Win

Pakistan’s title defence started with a stumble. Batting first against the UAE earlier on Friday, captain Abbas Afridi smashed 53 off just 13 balls to lift Pakistan to 106 for 2 in their six overs — but the UAE chased it down, with opener Khalid Shah scoring 71 off 20 balls, to win by one wicket (109 for 5).

That result changes this match completely. Only the group winners reach the Cup semi-finals, and Group C has just three teams: India, Pakistan and the UAE. The UAE already have one win. If Pakistan lose to India as well, their Cup defence is over on day one. A win, on the other hand, keeps everything alive heading into Saturday’s UAE vs India game.

IND vs PAK Hong Kong Sixes 2026 Squads

India: Krunal Pandya (captain), Shashank Singh, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi, T. Natarajan, Kulwant Khejroliya. Krunal takes charge after Bhuvneshwar Kumar, initially named captain, was replaced in the squad by Kulwant Khejroliya.

Pakistan: Abbas Afridi (captain), Abdul Samad, Ahmed Daniyal, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Khawaja Nafay (wicketkeeper), Muhammad Shahzad, Saad Masood. Afridi showed his form this morning with 53 off 13 against the UAE, and Pakistan will need another big innings from their captain here.

Hong Kong Sixes Head-to-Head: Pakistan Lead India 4-1

Pakistan have dominated this rivalry in Hong Kong Sixes history, leading India 4-1 across five meetings. India’s only win came in the 2025 edition, when they edged Pakistan by two runs. That recent win is India’s reference point — and Pakistan’s motivation to set the record straight.

The format makes history less relevant than form on the day. With six overs per innings and every player except the wicketkeeper required to bowl, one over can swing the whole match. India’s squad is full of finishers — Shashank Singh and Rahul Tewatia can clear the ropes from ball one, Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi hit hard at the top, and T. Natarajan’s yorkers are built for the death overs of a six-over innings.

Hong Kong Sixes Format: Six Overs, No Time to Settle

The Hong Kong Sixes is cricket at full throttle. Each side bats for a maximum of six overs, and every player except the wicketkeeper must bowl at least one over. There is no time to play yourself in: teams must hit from the first ball, and bowlers must go full and straight.

The 2026 edition features 12 teams in four groups of three, playing 25 matches across three days from October 30 to November 1 at the Mission Road Ground. The group winners advance to the Cup semi-finals, with the final on Sunday, November 1.
