IPL 2025: Digvesh Rathi Fined by BCCI Despite Winning Player of the Match
Digvesh Rathi, the young spinner from Lucknow Super Giants, had a mixed day on the field. While he was named the Player of the Match in IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians, he also got into trouble with the BCCI again.
Rathi Fined for His Celebration Style
After taking the wicket of Naman Dhir, who had scored a fast 46 runs from just 24 balls, Digvesh Rathi celebrated in his usual dramatic way. But this celebration didn’t go well with the officials. He gave Dhir a send-off, which is not allowed by the rules.
Because of this, the BCCI fined him ₹3.75 lakh and gave him two demerit points. Now, his total demerit points have reached 3.
Not the First Time He Got Fined
This isn’t Rathi’s first time getting punished. In a previous match against Punjab Kings, he had done his “writing in my notebook” celebration after taking Priyansh Arya’s wicket. Back then, he was fined ₹1.87 lakh and got one demerit point.
Even after that warning, he repeated the act against Mumbai Indians. This shows that the young bowler still needs to be more careful with his on-field actions.
How the Match Went
The match was held at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Batting first, the Lucknow Super Giants scored a strong 203/8 in 20 overs.
- Mitchell Marsh played an amazing knock of 60 runs off 31 balls.
- Aiden Markram also did well, scoring 53 runs from 38 balls.
- David Miller gave a quick boost at the end with 27 runs off 14 balls.
- For Mumbai, Hardik Pandya was the best bowler, taking 5 wickets.
In reply, Suryakumar Yadav scored a half-century for Mumbai Indians, but it wasn’t enough. Mumbai fell short of the target, and Lucknow won the match.
