Major Setback! Pakistan Pacer Ruled Out of Test Series Against Bangladesh
Pakistan, led by Shan Masood, has announced their playing eleven for the first Test against Bangladesh, which will be held in Rawalpindi. Saim Ayub is set to open the innings alongside Abdullah Shafique, while Mohammad Rizwan has been chosen as the wicketkeeper, replacing the experienced Sarfaraz Ahmed. The decision to go with Rizwan over Sarfaraz has drawn attention, especially as the team prepares for a series where the pitch is expected to favor fast bowlers.
Pakistan has included four pace bowlers in their lineup, suggesting that they expect the Rawalpindi pitch to assist seamers. Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the fast bowling attack, supported by Naseem Shah, Mohammad Ali, and the up-and-coming Khurram Shahzad. The inclusion of four pacers highlights Pakistan’s strategy to make the most of the conditions and go for a result-oriented approach.
Interestingly, the team has not included a frontline spinner in the playing XI. However, Saud Shakeel, who is also the vice-captain, and Salman Ali Agha can provide spin options if needed during the match. Babar Azam will continue to bat at his usual number four position, and the team’s lineup suggests an aggressive approach to the game.
This Test match also marks the first game for Jason Gillespie as the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team, adding another layer of interest to the series. Ahead of the match, all-rounder Aamer Jamal was released from the squad due to a back injury. Jamal, who had been included in the squad subject to fitness, was unable to recover in time. The injury occurred while he was playing county cricket for Warwickshire, and despite efforts to regain fitness, he was ultimately ruled out of the series. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has advised him to continue his recovery at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
With the first Test starting on August 21 at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, Pakistan is looking to make a strong start against Bangladesh. The second Test, initially scheduled to take place in Karachi, will also be held in Rawalpindi due to ongoing renovations at the original venue.
Pakistan’s selected lineup reflects their intent to dominate the series with a focus on pace bowling and an aggressive batting approach. The team is eager to perform well under the new coach and reclaim their winning form in the longest format of the game.
