England captain Eoin Morgan smashed the record for most sixes in an innings during the 2019 Cricket World Cup against Afghanistan. Morgan came out to bat with his side at 164/2 in 30 overs and forged a 189-run partnership with Joe Root.

He broke the all-time record with a six off a Gulbadin Naib delivery before being dismissed on the very next ball.

USA’s Jaskaran Malhotra also hit 16 sixes in an innings in a 2021 ODI fixture against Papua New Guinea. However, Sharma’s record still stands as the most sixes hit by an Indian player in an ODI innings.

1. Eoin Morgan (ENG) – 17 sixes

Eoin Morgan, the former England captain, hit 17 sixes and four boundaries against Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup in Manchester, breaking the record for most sixes in an ODI innings.

He scored 148 runs off 71 balls, at a strike rate of 208.45. England went on to win the match by 150 runs, after Afghanistan were bowled out for 247/8.

2. Rohit Sharma (IND) – 16 sixes

Rohit Sharma, one of the best six-hitters in the world, scored 209 runs off 158 balls, with 12 fours and 16 sixes, in an ODI match against Australia in Bengaluru in November 2013. India made 383/6 and won the match by 57 runs.

3. AB de Villiers (SA) – 16 Sixes

AB de Villiers Shatters ODI Records with 16 Sixes In January 2015, AB de Villiers stunned the cricket world with his incredible batting display against West Indies in Johannesburg.

He smashed the fastest ODI fifty and hundred ever, reaching them in just 16 and 31 balls respectively. His final score was 149 off 44 balls, with nine fours and 16 sixes. His explosive knock helped South Africa post a mammoth 439/2 and win by 148 runs.

4. Chris Gayle (WI) – 16 Sixes

Chris Gayle, one of the most powerful and destructive batsmen in cricket history, unleashed 16 sixes in a record-breaking double century against Zimbabwe in the 2015 World Cup in Canberra.

He reached his double century in just 147 balls, with 10 fours, helping the West Indies to a massive 372/2 and a 73-run victory (DLS method).

5. Jaskaran Malhotra (USA) – 16 Sixes

Jaskaran Malhotra, from the United States of America, hit 16 sixes in an ODI innings against Papua New Guinea in September 2021 in Al Amerat, Oman. This is the joint-second-most sixes hit by a player in an ODI innings.

Malhotra’s superb 173 not out from 124 balls helped USA score 271/9, before they dismissed the opposition for 137 runs to win by 134 runs.
