Riyan Parag IPL Stats, Price, Runs, Age, Century, Debut, Team
Riyan Parag’s IPL story is one of patience rewarded. After five seasons of unfulfilled promise with Rajasthan Royals, the Assam all-rounder exploded in 2024 with 573 runs at an average above 52, transforming from a much-memed youngster into the third-highest run-scorer of the season.
Parag has played his entire IPL career for Rajasthan Royals since his debut in 2019. In 2025 he added leadership to his game, captaining the side in eight matches when Sanju Samson was injured, and finished with 393 runs at a strike rate of 166.52. Through the end of 2025, he has 1,566 IPL runs in 84 matches, and he now leads Rajasthan as their full-time captain.
Riyan Parag IPL Career Overview
Rajasthan Royals bought the teenage Parag at the 2019 auction after his exploits for Assam and India Under-19, where he had been part of the 2018 U19 World Cup-winning squad. He debuted that same season and even scored a fifty, but the next four years brought more trolling than runs as he averaged under 17 across 2020 to 2023.
The turnaround in 2024 was dramatic. Promoted to number four and given a clear role, Parag smashed 573 runs in 16 matches with four fifties, finishing as the season’s third-highest scorer. Rajasthan retained him for INR 14 crore ahead of the 2025 mega auction, and he responded with another strong campaign plus his first taste of IPL captaincy.

The 2024 Breakthrough Season
Everything changed for Parag in 2024. Batting at number four with the licence to attack spin, he scored 573 runs in 16 matches at an average of 52.09 and a strike rate of 149.22, with four half-centuries. Only Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad scored more that season.
The numbers were backed by method: he targeted the middle overs, used his wrists against spin and finally converted starts. His 84 not out against Delhi Capitals was the highest score of his career at the time, and his consistency forced his way into India’s T20I squad that summer.
Captaincy and the 2025 Season
With Sanju Samson missing chunks of the 2025 season through injury, Parag captained Rajasthan in eight matches, and his batting actually improved with the armband: 270 runs at an average of 38.57 and a strike rate of 181.20 as skipper, compared to 123 runs at 24.60 without it.
The season’s signature moment came against Kolkata Knight Riders, when he smashed 95 off 45 balls and hit six sixes in a single over, joining one of the most exclusive clubs in IPL history. He finished the season with 393 runs at 166.52 and 27 sixes, and Rajasthan named him their full-time captain for 2026.
Riyan Parag Playing Style and Role
Parag is a busy right-hander who scores heavily square of the wicket and has developed into a genuine spin-hitter, a skill that unlocked his 2024 season. His leg-breaks give his captain a handy sixth-bowling option, and he is a sharp fielder in the inner ring.
His game is built on intent: he looks to score from ball one, which makes him ideal for the middle overs when the field spreads. The 2025 season showed another layer, an ability to pace a chase and lead a side, which is why Rajasthan have now built their future around him.
Riyan Parag Memorable IPL Innings
The 95 off 45 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2025, featuring six sixes in one over, is already part of IPL folklore and the finest innings of his career. His unbeaten 84 against Delhi Capitals in 2024 announced the new Parag, while his 77 against Sunrisers Hyderabad the same season showed he could do it against top attacks.
Going further back, his 56 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2022 was a reminder of the talent that had kept Rajasthan patient through the lean years.
Riyan Parag IPL Price and Auction History
Rajasthan Royals bought Parag for INR 20 lakh at the 2019 auction. They stuck with him through every difficult season, and ahead of the 2025 mega auction they retained him for INR 14 crore, one of the biggest retentions of an Indian youngster that year. He has never played for another franchise.
