They then lost their final nine matches consecutively.

That sequence turned a reasonably promising opening into one of the worst seasons in IPL history. Pune finished with four wins, 12 defeats and eight points, placing ninth in the standings. 3. Delhi Daredevils – 12 Losses in 2014

Delhi entered 2014 hoping a major squad overhaul would erase the disappointment of their 13-loss campaign a year earlier.

Instead, the results became almost as bad.

Delhi won just two of 14 matches and lost 12. Their victories came against Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, both during the early part of the campaign.

After beating Mumbai in their fifth match, Delhi did not win again.

The results were completely different from expectations.

Those isolated successes could not hide a deeply inconsistent season. Deccan lost their final seven games and finished eighth.

Remarkably, the franchise responded in the best possible way. Under Adam Gilchrist, Deccan Chargers returned the following season and won the 2009 IPL title.

5. Deccan Chargers – 11 Losses in 2012

Deccan’s final IPL campaign also ended near the bottom of the standings.

They played 16 matches in 2012, winning four, losing 11 and recording one no-result. Their 11 defeats placed them eighth in the nine-team competition.

Shikhar Dhawan was a major positive, scoring 569 runs, while Dale Steyn took 18 wickets. The team nevertheless struggled to turn strong individual performances into victories.

Deccan lost their opening five completed matches before finally earning their first victory. They showed some improvement late in the tournament by winning their final two matches, but by then playoff qualification was long gone.

KKR endured nine successive defeats from late April into mid-May. They eventually broke the sequence by defeating Chennai Super Kings and then won their final match against Rajasthan Royals.
