BBL Winners List: All Champions from 2011-12 to 2025-26

Perth Scorchers are the most successful team in Big Bash League history, with six titles — and the full list of BBL winners tells the story of how they built that dominance. From Sydney Sixers’ inaugural triumph in 2011–12 to the Scorchers’ record sixth title in 2025–26, fifteen seasons of the BBL have produced six different champions, three back-to-back winners, and one club — Melbourne Stars — still waiting for its first trophy.

This list is correct through the end of BBL|15 in January 2026, before the BBL 2026-27 season begins on 12 December 2026. The next name on this list will be written in January 2027.

BBL Titles by Team

Perth Scorchers lead the BBL titles table with six championships, and they have reached nine grand finals in fifteen seasons — a record of sustained excellence no other club matches. Sydney Sixers are second with three titles, Brisbane Heat have two, and Sydney Thunder, Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes have one each. Melbourne Stars are the only club never to have won the BBL, despite reaching three finals.

The Scorchers’ dominance is built on the two great captaincy eras covered in the most successful captains in BBL history chart: Adam Voges’ two titles in 2014–15 and 2016–17, and Ashton Turner’s record three titles in 2021–22, 2022–23 and 2025–26. Simon Katich captained the first Scorchers title in 2013–14.

The Most Memorable BBL Finals

The very first BBL final, in 2011–12, was won by Sydney Sixers, who defeated Perth Scorchers at the WACA Ground — a fitting start to the rivalry that would define the league. The Scorchers avenged that defeat many times over, but the Sixers remain the only club besides Perth and Brisbane to have won the BBL more than once.

The 2024–25 final produced one of the great individual performances in BBL history: Mitchell Owen’s 108 off 42 balls, including a 39-ball century — the joint-fastest century in BBL history — carried Hobart Hurricanes past Sydney Thunder by seven wickets and delivered the Hurricanes their maiden title. Owen’s innings is covered in the fastest centuries in BBL history chart.

The most recent final, in 2025–26, saw Perth Scorchers top the regular-season standings and then beat Sydney Sixers by six wickets in the final at Perth Stadium, in front of a record final attendance of 55,018. The Sixers, chasing their fourth title, had reached the final by eliminating defending champions Hobart Hurricanes in the Challenger — but the Scorchers restricted them to 132 runs and chased it down in 17.3 overs, with Josh Inglis sealing the title with a six. The win made Ashton Turner the first captain to win three BBL finals as skipper.

The finals themselves have travelled the country. The first was played at the WACA Ground in Perth, the 2024–25 final at Ninja Stadium in Hobart, and the 2025–26 final at Perth Stadium — where the record crowd of 55,018 also set a new mark for BBL final attendance, and the total season attendance topped 1,081,484 across all matches. The BBL final has become one of the biggest nights on the Australian sporting calendar, and the 2026–27 final, on 26 January 2027, will be played at a venue decided by the standings.

Back-to-Back Champions in BBL History

Three clubs have won back-to-back BBL titles. Perth Scorchers did it twice: first in 2013–14 and 2014–15 (under Katich and then Voges), and again in 2021–22 and 2022–23 (both under Turner). Sydney Sixers did it in 2019–20 and 2020–21, both under Moises Henriques. No club has ever won three BBL titles in a row — the closest anyone has come is the Scorchers’ current era, with three titles in five seasons under Turner.

The champions’ list also shows how quickly fortunes change in the BBL. Brisbane Heat waited eleven seasons between their first title (2012–13) and their second (2023–24). Hobart Hurricanes waited fourteen seasons for their first. And Melbourne Stars, finalists three times, are still waiting — which is why their story is one of the great subplots of every new season.

For Indian fans following the new season, the BBL schedule 2026-27 shows when the BBL|16 champion will be crowned — and the most runs in BBL history, most wickets in BBL history, most sixes in BBL history, highest individual scores in BBL history, highest team totals in BBL history and best bowling figures in BBL history charts show the records the next champions will be chasing.

Who Will Win BBL|16?

The BBL 2026-27 season begins on 12 December 2026 with a historic first: the opening match, Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers, will be played in Chennai — the first BBL match ever staged outside Australia. Defending champions Perth Scorchers start as favourites, but the BBL has never had a three-time consecutive champion, and the chasing pack — Sixers, Heat, Hurricanes and a Stars side desperate for a first title — will all believe this is their year.

Whoever wins in January 2027 will become the sixteenth name on this list. Until then, the Scorchers sit alone at the top — six titles, three of them under the most successful captain the league has ever seen.
