Fazalhaq Farooqi IPL Stats, Price, Runs, Age, Century, Debut, Team
Fazalhaq Farooqi is Afghanistan‘s premier left-arm new-ball bowler, a swing specialist whose international record marks him as one of the finest T20 pacers of his generation. In the IPL, however, his career has been a story of unfulfilled promise, with just 12 matches across four seasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals.
The contrast is striking. For Afghanistan, he has 66 T20I wickets including a five-wicket haul. In the IPL, he has managed only 6 wickets at a high economy. His journey illustrates how even world-class international bowlers can struggle to crack settled IPL line-ups.
Fazalhaq Farooqi IPL Career Overview
Fazalhaq Farooqi was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 50 lakh in the 2022 IPL auction. He made his debut on 8 May 2022 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium, taking 2 wickets.
He played three matches in 2022 and four in 2023 for SRH, showing occasional glimpses of his swing bowling. His best spell for the franchise came in 2023, when he took 2 for 41 against Rajasthan Royals, troubling their top order with late movement. He spent 2024 on the bench without a game as SRH’s settled pace attack left no room for him. In the 2025 mega auction, Rajasthan Royals bought him for 2 crore, but he endured a difficult season with 5 matches and no wickets at an economy of 12.35.
Across his IPL career, Fazalhaq Farooqi has played 12 matches and taken 6 wickets at an average of 72.83 and an economy of 10.32, with best figures of 2 for 32.

IPL Debut: Promise at the Wankhede
His debut on 8 May 2022 offered genuine promise. Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium, he swung the new ball and picked up 2 wickets, showing exactly why Sunrisers Hyderabad had bought him. It remains one of his best IPL performances.
The International Star
To understand the IPL frustration, look at his Afghanistan record. Fazalhaq Farooqi made his T20I debut in March 2021 against Zimbabwe and has since taken 66 wickets in 54 T20Is at an average of 20.17, with best figures of 5 for 9. In ODIs, he has 52 wickets in 42 matches.
He has been Afghanistan’s go-to new-ball bowler in global tournaments, renowned for late swing, accurate yorkers and clever changes of pace. His performances in franchise leagues around the world, including the BBL with Sydney Thunder and The Hundred, have been consistently strong.
Bowling Style and Role
Fazalhaq Farooqi is a left-arm fast-medium bowler who bowls in the high 130s kph. His stock ball swings late into right-handers, and his yorker is among the best in Associate-turned-elite cricket. He is at his best with the new ball in the powerplay, where his swing can dismantle top orders.
His struggles in the IPL have largely come at the death, where flat pitches and world-class power-hitters have punished any lack of variation. The 2025 season exposed this brutally, with an economy of 12.35. Developing a reliable wide yorker and a deceptive slower bouncer remains the key to unlocking his full IPL potential.
Fazalhaq Farooqi Age and Background
Fazalhaq Farooqi was born on 22 September 2000 in Baghlan, Afghanistan. He rose through Afghanistan’s age-group system before breaking into the senior side in 2021, quickly establishing himself as a first-choice new-ball bowler.
Fazalhaq Farooqi IPL Records and Achievements
– IPL debut: 8 May 2022 for Sunrisers Hyderabad vs RCB, with 2 wickets
– Best IPL figures: 2 for 32
– Best IPL season: 2023, with 4 wickets in 4 matches
– Career IPL numbers: 12 matches, 6 wickets, 1 catch
– International record: 66 T20I wickets at 20.17, best 5 for 9
Strengths and Weaknesses
His greatest strength is new-ball swing. When conditions offer even a hint of movement, he is genuinely world-class, as his international record proves. His yorker execution is excellent.
His main weakness in the IPL has been adaptability on flat decks. Without swing, his pace in the high 130s has been hittable, and his death bowling has lacked the variations to survive against elite finishers. Limited and inconsistent opportunities have not helped his rhythm either.
What Next for Fazalhaq Farooqi
At 26, Fazalhaq Farooqi’s best years should still be ahead of him. His international form remains outstanding, and one strong IPL season could change the narrative completely. Franchises know what he can do with the new ball; the challenge is finding the right role and conditions for him.
The 2026 auction will be revealing. If a team with swing-friendly home conditions backs him as a powerplay specialist rather than a death bowler, his IPL numbers could finally start to match his international pedigree.
