Harshal Patel IPL Teams

Harshal has represented four IPL franchises.

He has spent most of his IPL career with RCB.

His two Purple Caps came for RCB and Punjab Kings.

Harshal Patel With RCB

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been the most important franchise in Harshal’s IPL career.

He first played for the team in 2012.

After spending three seasons with Delhi, he returned to RCB for IPL 2021.

That return produced his record-equalling 32-wicket campaign.

Across his different spells with Bengaluru, he developed from a squad bowler into a frontline death-overs specialist.

Harshal Patel With Delhi Capitals

Harshal represented Delhi from 2018 to 2020.

His opportunities were more limited compared with his later RCB seasons.

He took 7 wickets in 2018, 2 wickets in 2019 and 3 wickets in 2020.

He then returned to Bengaluru before IPL 2021.

Harshal Patel With Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings signed Harshal ahead of IPL 2024.

The move proved successful immediately.

He took 24 wickets and won the Purple Cap.

Even though PBKS did not reach the playoffs, Harshal finished ahead of every other bowler in the tournament.

Harshal Patel With Sunrisers Hyderabad

Harshal joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2025.

He took 16 wickets during his first season with the franchise.

He remained with SRH in 2026, although his playing time was reduced and he finished that campaign without a wicket.

Harshal Patel Bowling Style

Harshal is a right-arm medium-fast bowler.

His most recognizable delivery is the slower ball.

Instead of relying only on pace, he changes speed frequently and forces batters to generate their own power.

He also uses cutters and yorkers, particularly near the end of an innings.

This style has helped him take large numbers of wickets when batters are trying to accelerate.

Harshal Patel at the Death

Many of Harshal’s wickets have come during the final overs.

Death bowling can be expensive because batters are looking for boundaries almost every delivery.

Harshal accepts that risk and attacks the stumps or uses slower balls into the pitch.

His economy rate can therefore be higher than some powerplay specialists, while his wicket totals remain strong.

Harshal Patel Bowling Average

Harshal’s IPL bowling average is 24.68 through 2026.

That means he has conceded 24.68 runs per wicket across his career.

His best full season by average came in 2021.

His economy was much lower in some individual seasons.

For example, he conceded only 7.66 runs per over during IPL 2022.

Harshal Patel Bowling Strike Rate

Harshal’s career strike rate is 16.60.

A bowling strike rate measures how many balls a bowler needs, on average, to take a wicket.

That equates to almost one wicket every 1.8 overs.

Harshal has recorded four four-wicket hauls in the IPL.

He also has one five-wicket haul.

His major wicket-taking performances include 5/27 vs Mumbai Indians in 2021, 4/34 in 2022 and 4/28 in 2025.

His best season in terms of both total wickets and major spells remains 2021.

His highest IPL score is 36 not out.

Batting, however, has never been his main role.

Harshal Patel's 32-Wicket Record

Harshal’s 2021 season remains the central record of his IPL career.

Only Dwayne Bravo has also taken 32 wickets in one edition.

Several elite bowlers have come close, including Kagiso Rabada, Lasith Malinga, Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal, but none has moved past 32.

Through IPL 2026, Harshal remains joint holder of the record.

Harshal Patel Purple Cap Record

Harshal belongs to a small group of bowlers who have won multiple Purple Caps.

His two awards came three seasons apart.
