IPL 2024 Auction Live Updates: The IPL auction is like a cricket shopping spree for the world’s best players! The Australian World Cup-winning fast bowlers were bought for a mind-boggling Rs 24.75 Crore and Rs 20.50 Crore respectively.

IPL 2024 Auction Live Updates: Kolkata Knight Riders broke the bank for Mitchell Starc in the Indian Premier League 2024 auction, buying him for Rs 24.75 crore. This was the biggest buy in IPL auction history, surpassing the previous record. Starc has not played in the IPL since 2015, yet KKR chose to bid aggressively for him.

Shortly after, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked Australian captain Pat Cummins for Rs 20.5 crore in a record-setting bid that he held briefly before Starc claimed the top spot. With their expensive bids, both KKR and SRH signaled the value they see in marquee Australian fast bowlers despite high price tags.

Starc and Cummins will now eagerly look to repay their new franchises after becoming the costliest purchases in IPL auction history on the back of intense bidding wars.

IPL 2024 Auction Rules

By hosting a mini-auction for the 2024 IPL season, the BCCI has given franchises the advantage of keeping most of their players rather than facing a mega auction.

In the 2024 IPL auction:

  • Franchises cannot buy players beyond their remaining purse balance.
  • Each franchise must spend at least 75% of their total auction cash.
  • Teams will not have the Right to Match (RTM) card option available to them.
  • No franchise’s squad can exceed 25 players or fall below 18 players.
  • At max, teams can have 8 overseas players on the roster and 4 foreign players in the playing eleven based on the IPL committee’s prevailing rules.

IPL Auction 2024 Live: Most expensive players in past

Over the years, many big names have earned whopping amounts in the IPL auctions. The list comprises the likes of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni, Andrew Flintoff, Kevin Pietersen, Gautam Gambhir, Kieron Pollard, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuvraj Singh, Ben Stokes, Pat Cummins, etc.

In the last auction, England all-rounder Sam Curran broke all records to become the most-expensive player in IPL history (going to the Punjab franchise for INR 18.5 crore).
