As per the list of the most expensive players in the IPL 2024 Mega-auction, Australian Bowler Mitchell Starc holds the top position. As a result, Mitchell Starc has now become the first ever most-paid Australian player in the history of the Indian Premier League auctions, following former English cricketer Sam Curran.

n the 2024 IPL auction, Kolkata Knight Riders shattered the record for the costliest buy ever by purchasing Mitchell Starc for Rs 24.75 crore. The Australian pacer had not played in the IPL since 2015, yet KKR fiercely outbid others to secure his services.

Starc’s record was short-lived though as Sunrisers Hyderabad then picked Australian captain Pat Cummins for an even higher price of Rs 20.5 crore, the new record amount spent on an overseas player in IPL auction history. However, Cummins was soon overtaken by his compatriot Starc as this year’s most expensive purchase.

Both KKR and SRH aggressively pursued the Australian fast bowlers in bidding wars and broke the bank with their winning bids. The franchises clearly valued marquee international pacers highly for the 2024 season, investing record sums despite injury concerns around Starc and past IPL performance. Their record-shattering bids for Starc and Cummins set new benchmarks for what teams were willing to spend at the IPL 2024 auction.
