Ranji Trophy 2026-27 Round 4 Preview: Mumbai, Bengal and Vidarbha Defend Perfect Records
Round 4 of the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 begins on Monday, November 2, and it is the most important round of the season so far. All 19 matches — 16 Elite games and three Plate fixtures — run from November 2 to November 5, and this is the final round of the first phase before the white-ball break. When the red-ball season resumes on January 17, 2027, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy will have been played in between, so the points banked this week will shape the quarter-final race for months.
Three teams carry perfect records into the round: Bengal in Elite Group C, Mumbai in Elite Group D and Vidarbha in Elite Group A. All three won their first three matches outright, and all three face tricky tests this week. Add the form players of the season — Priyanshu Moliya, Ayush Badoni and Musheer Khan — and Round 4 has plenty to follow across the country.

Ranji Trophy points table picture heading into Round 4
Bengal head Elite Group C with 18 points after three outright wins from three. Their latest success was a 287-run thrashing of Kerala at Thiruvananthapuram in Round 3, with Shahbaz Ahmed and Pradipta Pramanik among the standout performers. Bengal now host Maharashtra at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, in the round’s biggest Group C fixture.
Mumbai are equally perfect in Elite Group D. The 42-time champions beat Haryana by 10 wickets at the BKC Ground in Round 3, with Musheer Khan scoring 109 and taking eight wickets across the match, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi adding 114 and an unbeaten 67. Mumbai’s next test is unusual: their match against Railways is at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, but it is Railways’ home fixture, so it counts as an away game for Mumbai.
Vidarbha lead Elite Group A after three straight wins — over Puducherry, Jammu and Kashmir and Goa. Their Round 3 win came by an innings and 27 runs at Nagpur, built on Dhruv Shorey’s hundred and four wickets from Harsh Dubey in Goa’s second innings. Vidarbha now host Madhya Pradesh, who arrive fresh from an innings-and-174-run demolition of Bihar at Indore.
Elite Group B remains the most open group. Karnataka’s innings-and-116-run win over Tripura in Round 3 was their first outright victory of the season, with Shreyas Gopal taking a five-wicket haul, while Punjab and Hyderabad shared the points in a draw. Defending champions Jammu and Kashmir are still winless after their draw at Vadodara, and Delhi’s rain-hit draw at Ranchi cost them maximum points despite Ayush Badoni’s second consecutive double century.
Matches to watch in Ranji Trophy Round 4
Bengal vs Maharashtra, Eden Gardens, Kolkata
The headline fixture of the round. Bengal have won all three matches so far and sit top of Group C with 18 points. Maharashtra, led by Prithvi Shaw, drew with Gujarat in Round 3 and need a big result to stay in the quarter-final hunt. A fourth straight Bengal win at Eden Gardens would make them very hard to catch.
Railways vs Mumbai, Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai
Mumbai’s perfect record goes on the line at a historic venue. Brabourne Stadium is hosting Ranji Trophy cricket for the first time in more than three years, and it is Railways’ new home ground for the season. Mumbai’s batting, powered by Musheer Khan and Raghuvanshi, meets a Railways side that lost to Tamil Nadu by five wickets in Round 3 and needs points badly.
Vidarbha vs Madhya Pradesh, Nagpur
Group A’s top side against the round’s most destructive bowling performance. Madhya Pradesh bowled Bihar out for 99 and 134 at Indore, with Saransh Jain claiming a 13-wicket match haul and captain Rajat Patidar scoring 109. Vidarbha’s Shorey and Dubey are in form too, so this is the round’s best contest between bat and ball.
Uttar Pradesh vs Baroda, Green Park, Kanpur
Baroda arrive with the player of Round 3. Priyanshu Moliya’s unbeaten 321 off 492 balls, with 36 fours and a six, carried Baroda to 616 against Jammu and Kashmir at Vadodara and broke Gul Mohammad’s 79-year-old Baroda record of 319. It is the second-highest score of the current Ranji season, behind only Chinmay Sutar’s 400 not out. Uttar Pradesh drew with Puducherry in Round 3 and must find a way to stop Moliya.
Delhi vs Services, Palam A, Delhi
Delhi captain Ayush Badoni is the form batter of the tournament. He followed his 217 against Gujarat with an unbeaten 210 off 228 balls against Jharkhand at Ranchi, sharing an unbeaten 334-run stand with Sumit Mathur, who made 150 not out. Rain washed out the final two days of that match, so Badoni will want a full game against Services to turn his runs into a win.
Assam vs Karnataka, Guwahati
Karnataka finally have an outright win on the board after beating Tripura by an innings and 116 runs. Assam, meanwhile, were bowled out for just 94 in their second innings by Saurashtra in Round 3 and lost by an innings and 12 runs. Karnataka will fancy a second straight win; Assam need a response at home.
Star players to watch in Ranji Trophy Round 4
- Priyanshu Moliya (Baroda): 321 not out in Round 3, the second-highest score of the season. The form batter in domestic cricket right now.
- Ayush Badoni (Delhi): Double centuries in consecutive first-class innings — 217 against Gujarat and 210 not out against Jharkhand.
- Musheer Khan (Mumbai): 109 runs and eight wickets in Mumbai’s 10-wicket win over Haryana in Round 3.
- Saransh Jain (Madhya Pradesh): A 13-wicket match haul in the innings win over Bihar.
- Chinmay Sutar (Mizoram): His 400 not out against Nagaland on October 19 is the first Ranji quadruple century in 78 years. Mizoram face Arunachal Pradesh in the Plate Group this round.
- Nehal Pajni (Chandigarh): Scored 222 as Chandigarh declared at 685 for 5 against Himachal Pradesh in the highest-scoring draw of Round 3.
- Harsh Dubey (Vidarbha): Four wickets in Goa’s second innings as Vidarbha made it three wins from three.

Why Ranji Trophy Round 4 matters so much
Round 4 is the last red-ball round before a long white-ball interruption. After November 5, the domestic calendar switches to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and then the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the Ranji Trophy does not return until January 17, 2027. Teams that bank outright wins now will spend the break at the top of their groups; teams that draw will spend it chasing.
Round 3 showed how quickly things can change: eight of the 19 matches produced outright results and 11 ended in draws, with rain cutting several games short. For the unbeaten trio of Bengal, Mumbai and Vidarbha, this round is about protecting perfect records. For defending champions Jammu and Kashmir, still winless, and for sides like Assam and Railways, it is about getting a first win before the break. Expect the last round of phase 1 to be the most fiercely contested yet.
