Sam Curran IPL Stats, Price, Team, Salary & Career Records

Sam Curran is the definition of a modern T20 all-rounder. The England star can swing the new ball, nail yorkers at the death, and clear the ropes with the bat, which is why IPL franchises have repeatedly broken the bank for him. He remains one of the most expensive players in IPL auction history, and his match-winning performances for England and his franchises have justified every rupee.

This article covers Sam Curran’s IPL stats, price, team history, salary, career records, and full profile.

Sam Curran Profile

Born in England and raised in Zimbabwe, where his father Kevin Curran played international cricket, Sam moved back to England as a teenager and rose rapidly through the Surrey system. Along with his brother Tom Curran, he became part of a new generation of English white-ball specialists built for T20 leagues.

Sam Curran IPL Career and Teams

Curran’s IPL story started with a bang. At the 2019 auction, Kings XI Punjab bought the then 20-year-old for INR 7.2 crore, making him the joint most expensive player of that auction. He repaid the faith instantly, taking a hat-trick against Delhi Capitals in his debut season and becoming the youngest player to take an IPL hat-trick.

Chennai Super Kings signed him for INR 5.5 crore ahead of the 2020 season, and he spent two productive years in yellow, excelling as a finisher with the bat and a powerplay wicket-taker. Then came the landmark moment: at the 2023 auction, Punjab Kings bought him for INR 18.5 crore, the highest bid ever for a player at that time. He captained Punjab in Shikhar Dhawan’s absence during the 2023 season.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Chennai Super Kings brought him back for INR 2.4 crore at the mega auction, a smart piece of business for a proven match-winner.

Sam Curran IPL Stats

Curran’s IPL numbers reflect his two-in-one value. He has delivered with both bat and ball across more than 60 matches in the league.

The figures above are approximate and cover his IPL career through the 2025 season. His best all-round season came in 2023, when he scored 276 runs and took 10 wickets while also leading the side. Few players in the league offer his combination of left-arm swing, death bowling, and late-order power.

Sam Curran Price and Salary History

No discussion of Sam Curran is complete without his auction history, which reads like a timeline of the IPL’s growing wealth.

The INR 18.5 crore bid in 2023 made him the most expensive player in IPL auction history at the time. It was a reflection of his status as the Player of the Tournament at the 2022 T20 World Cup, where his 13 wickets, including 3 for 12 in the final against Pakistan, carried England to the title.

Career Records and Achievements

Curran’s record book is exceptional for a player still in his twenties. His IPL hat-trick against Delhi Capitals in 2019 made him the youngest to achieve the feat in the league’s history, and it announced him as a bowler for the big moments.

For England, his crowning glory came at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Curran took 13 wickets in the tournament at a stunning average, and his 3 for 12 in the final against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground won him both the Player of the Match in the final and the Player of the Tournament award.

He has also been a consistent performer in The Hundred, the Big Bash League, and other T20 leagues around the world. Among overseas all-rounders in the IPL, very few can match his record of delivering under pressure with both bat and ball.

What Makes Sam Curran Special

Curran’s left-arm angle gives him a natural point of difference in a league dominated by right-arm quicks. He swings the new ball, varies his pace cleverly, and has one of the best slower balls in the business. With the bat, he is a clean striker who is particularly strong through the leg side and has finished many tight chases.

His cricket intelligence sets him apart. Captaining Punjab Kings in 2023 showed the trust franchises place in his reading of the game, and his calmness in high-pressure moments is rare. While the charts for most runs in IPL history are dominated by specialist batters, all-rounders like Curran win a different kind of value race. Whether defending 10 runs in the final over or needing 20 off the last, Curran wants the ball or the strike.

Conclusion

From a INR 7.2 crore teenager to an INR 18.5 crore record signing, Sam Curran’s IPL journey mirrors the rise of the all-rounder in T20 cricket. With his best years still ahead of him and a return to Chennai Super Kings, he remains one of the most valuable overseas players in the league.
