Sri Lanka vs Kenya 1996 Cricket World Cup – (398/5)

Sri Lanka set their highest World Cup score during the 1996 tournament, where they went on to become champions. This record score of 398/5 was made against Kenya in Kandy during the 28th match.

Sri Lanka chose to bat first, and the openers gave a strong start with an 83-run partnership. Sanath Jayasuriya scored 44 runs from 27 balls, and Romesh Kaluwitharana added 33 runs from 18 balls. At number three, Asanka Gurusinha contributed 84 runs from 103 balls.

The highlight of the innings was Aravinda de Silva’s outstanding 145 runs off 115 balls, featuring 14 fours and five sixes. Captain Arjuna Ranatunga also made a significant contribution with an unbeaten 75 runs from 40 balls. This led Sri Lanka to post the highest World Cup total at that time.

Kenya fought back with a score of 254/7 but ultimately lost by 144 runs.

In the 2015 World Cup, Sri Lanka achieved their second-highest score in a match against Scotland in Hobart.Sri Lanka batted first and faced an early setback with the dismissal of Lahiru Thirimanne for just 4 runs. However, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara formed a remarkable partnership, adding 195 runs for the second wicket.
